SSL Reissue / Changing Domain

You may need to reissue your SSL certificate when you change servers, lose your private key, or for some other reason. You have unlimited free reissues for any SSL certificate purchased from CheapSSL.

You cannot make this change while your certificate is processing or awaiting issuance. Once your SSL certificate becomes "Active", you can use the reissue feature whenever you like.

Most common reasons to reissue an SSL

  • You lost your private key (RSA Key);
  • You're moving your website to a new web server;
  • You got a "modulus mismatch" error during installation;
  • You decided to change domain names;
  • You're adding/changing SAN entries for a multi-domain certificate;
  • The Certificate Authority may require reissuance due to major industry changes or other serious reasons;

Changing SAN Entries

During reissuance, you can update the SAN (Subject Alternative Name) entries for your Multi-Domain SSL certificate. Please note that we ignore the SAN entries listed in the CSR code. Instead, we use the information you submit in the dedicated fields on the Reissue form. This ensures your certificate's configuration is updated correctly.

Changing the Common Name

SSL certificates allow you to change the common name (domain) during reissuance. Simply submit a CSR with the new common name. Please note the previous SSL will be revoked immediately.

Things to Remember:

  • Using the Same CSR: If you use the original CSR code, the SSL is reissued automatically and requires no re-validation.
  • Entering a New Common Name: If you enter a new common name in the CSR code, the previous SSL will be revoked immediately.
  • Multi-Domain SSL Reissuance: If you reissue a Multi-Domain SSL using the original CSR code, you'll only need to validate the NEW SAN entry.
